Wade House
Aspen Build were appointed by Havebury Housing Partnership to complete the Wade House development in Stowmarket, delivering a high-quality residential scheme designed to provide much-needed social housing within the local community. The project presented a unique challenge, as Aspen Build took ownership of the scheme as a part-built development, requiring careful coordination, technical expertise and a considered approach to bring the project through to successful completion.
Originally a decommissioned nursing home, the site required significant transformation to create a modern and welcoming residential environment. Before construction could progress, elements of the existing structure underwent a detailed soft demolition strip, followed by essential structural remedial works. Aspen Build’s experienced project team carefully assessed the existing works and implemented the necessary solutions to ensure the development could move forward safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
Working collaboratively with Havebury Housing Partnership, Aspen Build delivered a scheme comprising 38 new homes, including 37 apartments and one bungalow. The development is arranged across four blocks, consisting of three semi-detached blocks, one detached block and a semi-detached bungalow, creating a varied and attractive residential setting that meets the growing demand for social housing within the Stowmarket area.
The development has been constructed using a traditional brick and block structure, providing a durable and long-lasting solution while complementing the surrounding environment. Render finishes and contemporary cladding panels have been incorporated throughout the scheme, adding contrast and character to the external appearance while creating a modern aesthetic that enhances the overall design.
Key features
A key feature of Wade House is the open walkway leading into the central courtyard, providing residents with a welcoming shared space that encourages a sense of community. The inclusion of a passenger lift also ensures improved accessibility throughout the development, supporting a range of residents and enhancing the long-term usability of the homes.
Throughout the project, attention to detail was central to the delivery approach, with bespoke privacy screens incorporated to provide residents with additional comfort, security and a sense of individual space. These features, alongside the considered layout and high-quality finishes, have helped create a development that combines practical living with a positive residential experience.
The successful completion of Wade House highlights Aspen Build’s ability to manage complex projects and deliver quality outcomes, even when taking on developments with existing challenges. Led by Steve Baker, Nick Dye, Chris Balls and Richard Julings, the project team worked collaboratively to transform a part-built scheme into much-needed, high-quality housing that will benefit the Stowmarket community for many years to come.
