Medway Close transformed a neglected former car park into a vibrant new residential development, providing 18 high-quality two-bedroom apartments within an established community. Once associated with anti-social behaviour, the site has been successfully regenerated to deliver attractive, sustainable homes that enhance the local neighbourhood and make efficient use of previously underutilised land.

Designed across three storeys, the development combines modern architecture with practical living, offering residents private parking, secure cycle storage, landscaped communal gardens, and thoughtfully planned shared spaces. The scheme demonstrates how challenging urban sites can be reimagined to create thriving new communities.

Early investigations uncovered unforeseen ground conditions, requiring the foundation design to be adapted during construction. By redesigning the foundations as deep strip footings, Aspen Build delivered a robust engineering solution while minimising disruption to neighbouring homes. The superstructure was constructed using an insulated timber frame system, providing excellent build quality, improved thermal performance, and an efficient construction programme.

The building's contemporary design has been carefully considered to complement its surroundings. A combination of red facing brickwork, through-coloured render, architectural cladding, curtain walling, and grey uPVC windows creates a modern yet sympathetic appearance, delivering a low-maintenance development with lasting visual appeal.

Accessibility and inclusivity were central to the project's design. Two fully wheelchair-accessible apartments were delivered with DDA-compliant wet rooms, adjustable kitchens, and future hoist provision, ensuring the homes can adapt to residents' changing needs. Throughout the development, every apartment was finished to a high specification, creating bright, comfortable homes built to stand the test of time.

Sustainability and resident wellbeing were integral to the scheme. Roof-mounted photovoltaic (PV) panels, enhanced insulation, provision for future electric vehicle charging, secure access control, CCTV, and an automated smoke ventilation system all contribute to a development that is energy-efficient, secure, and designed for modern living while meeting Secured by Design and Lifetime Homes standards.

Completed on programme and handed over snag-free, Medway Close was fully occupied within just one week of completion. The successful transformation of a previously underused site into a desirable residential development reflects Aspen Build's expertise in delivering high-quality regeneration projects that provide lasting value for clients, residents, and the wider community.
